Brazil is a country of mixtures, a nation founded on an intense cultural blend since its birth. Even today, the country is defined by its innovative combinations: design with traditional techniques, great natural beauties with technological tools and preservation of the environment with social work.
And that also reflects in the textile and apparel sector. The segment has more than 30 thousand companies that generate 1.65 million jobs throughout its extensive production chain that includes yarns, fibers, weaving mills and apparel industries.
With the nation’s self-sufficiency in cotton, Brazilian designers can allow their imagination run free, mixing raw materials and developing exclusive products, nourishing the segment and keeping the country among the sector’s large producers.
Brazil is among the 10 most important textile industry markets in the world and between the largest textile parks on the planet. It is the second largest supplier of indigo and third of knits. It is also among the five biggest producers of made-up articles and is one of the eight largest markets for yarns, filaments and fabrics.
Diversity is one of the main reasons for this success. Each Brazilian region operates in a different manner, according to its cultural variety, innovating in production and fabric treatment.
All these companies, whether small cooperatives or large corporations, have something in common: respect for the environment and the constant search for sustainable alternatives, generating the necessary return for the communities in which they are inserted.
Texbrasil
In order to help Brazilian companies grow both nationally and internationally, ABIT – Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association, with the partnership of APEX-Brasil, Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, created Texbrasil, Brazilian Textile Chain Strategic Program, in 2001.
The program’s mission is to support and prepare the sector’s companies to introduce Brazilian products in the international market in an organized way. For such, it has a series of actions, developed by specialized departments, that operate like tools for Brazilian companies interested in expanding or initiating business in other countries.
These include the Fashion Department, which identifies and promotes, through lectures, the main fashion trends gathered from trips to the main cities of the world; Consultancy for Product Adequacy, which analyzes Brazilian creations from an international buyer perspective; Creative Process Workshops, which guide and train the use of creativity throughout the productive process; and, several Seminars focused on competitiveness in global markets.
ABIT has local partners in every region of the country due to the vast territory it encompasses. This makes it possible to provide a more directed work. These include regional unions, federations and associations that work in synergy and permit developing actions formatted according to each location's characteristics and needs.
